Congratulating Sheng-Yuan Zhong, Jing Zhong and Yu-Yao Zhou for obtaining the Special Prize in the 5th National Undergraduate Chemistry Experiment Design Competition.

Their project addressed a common challenge in particle size measurement experiments teaching, where results from commercial DLS instruments often fluctuate and remain a “black box” to students. To overcome this, they designed an open, angle-adjustable DLS apparatus. By combining multi-angle measurements with extrapolation-based data processing, the system achieves improved accuracy and reliability. The team also created DLS-Analyzer, an interactive platform for data analysis and simulation, guiding learners through the entire process from raw signal acquisition to particle size calculation.

By integrating hardware construction with software-guided analysis, the project established a “hardware–software synergistic” teaching model, helping students better understand DLS principles, resolve uncertainties in experimental fluctuations, and strengthen confidence in data reliability.
